ROCKPORT, Maine — Three midcoast area communities want to know how satisfied local residents are with their Internet services and if there is interest in having the municipalities create their own high-speed broadband network.
Officials from Rockport, Owl’s Head and Rockland have contracted with Tilson Technologies to look at the feasibility of developing a high-speed broadband network to serve residents in the three communities.
As part of its work, the firm last week asked 400 randomly selected residents in each community to take part in a survey to evaluate satisfaction and interest in supporting a municipally owned network or another alternative.
The municipalities stated in a news release that anyone who was not selected but would like to participate can still take an online survey, which is available through the following link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/Mid-CoastOnline.
The study of improved service follows Rockport’s decision to create its own small, municipally-owned fiber optic network that is providing gigabit services to some residents and businesses.
