ROCKLAND, Maine — The 14th annual Maine Lobster Ride will take place on Sunday.
Produced by the Bicycle Coalition of Maine, the ride follows winding, country lanes and the rockbound coast past lighthouses, farmland and lobster boats. The ride offers amazing scenery, a lunch, and an atmosphere geared toward riders of all ages and abilities.
Last year the ride drew over 900 cyclists. In past years, it has been recognized by Bicycling Magazine as one of America’s Top Century Rides.
Riders can choose from five distance options (15, 30, 50, 80 or 100 miles), with staggered start times beginning at 7:30 a.m. All routes begin and end at Oceanside High School in Rockland. The ride is supported with maps, rest stops and support vehicles along with a lobster roll lunch (alternatives available) served at the conclusion.
Registration is $95 and $85 for seniors with a $20 discount for coalition members. Ages 12 to 17 pay $35, and those under 12 ride free. The Maine Lobster Ride is the Bicycle Coalition of Maine’s largest annual fundraiser and supports the nonprofit organization’s efforts to make Maine better for bicycling and walking.
This year’s ride is sponsored by Pen Bay Healthcare, Hannaford, L.L. Bean, Maine Beer Co. and Maine Magazine.
