BANGOR, Maine — Strong pitching and errorless defense lifted Bronco/Hermon by Brewer/Orrington 15-2 for the District 3 Junior League championship in all-star baseball action Sunday at Mansfield Stadium.
Bronco of Hampden Little League and Hermon advanced to the state tourney that begins Saturday at Mansfield Stadium.
In Sunday’s final, Derek Gendreau earned the pitching win for Bronco/Hermon (4-1) after allowing four hits and three walks in five innings while striking out four.
Keith Pomeroy and Nick Lorenzo each drove in three runs to lead Bronco/Hermon. Pomeroy notched three singles while Lorenzo recorded a double, single and sacrifice fly. Mark Mailloux chipped in with an RBI triple and Gavin Partridge added a two-run double.
Josiah Cyr contributed a triple and single for Brewer (4-2) while Zach Steiger had a double.
Brewer/Orrington forced the if-necessary game by handing Bronco/Hermon its first tourney loss earlier Sunday, 10-7.
Brewer/Orrington erupted for a five-run fifth inning to snap a 5-5 tie, highlighted by Marty Hewes’ two-run single, three walks and an error.
Evan Andrews finished with three singles and two RBIs to lead the Brewer attack. Jordan Wood added two singles and Josiah Cyr tripled.
Alex Applebee and Mailloux each singled and drove in a run for Bronco/Hermon.
On Saturday, Bronco/Hermon and Brewer/Orrington emerged from the field to advance to the championship round.
Bronco/Hermon handed Brewer/Orrington its first loss 10-4, Holbrook of Holden/Dedham eliminated Bangor 10-8 and then Brewer/Orrington ousted Holbrook 10-1.
In the first game, Bronco/Hermon (3-0) received a shutout effort from Partridge and Kent Johnson over the final 3 ⅔ innings to secure the win. They allowed three hits, didn’t walk a batter and struck out four.
Bronco/Hermon opened the game by scoring four first-inning runs on only one hit, three walks and an error. Mailloux sparked his team with an RBI triple, double and single. Applebee added an RBI double and two singles while Adam Rush chipped in with two singles and an RBI and Rece Poulin had a two-run double.
Wood sparked Brewer/Orrington with a triple, single and an RBI. Zach Steiger added a two-run double and single.
In the second game, Holbrook rallied for four runs in the seventh to take a two-run lead after Bangor had erased a 6-2 deficit earlier in the contest.
Nate Laskey notched three singles to lead Holbrook. Andrew Kiley and Matt Cunningham each added two singles, with Cunningham driving in a run. Preston Weatherbie contributed a double and three RBIs.
Nick Crichton hit a two-run double and single to spark Bangor (2-2) while Kevin Fish and Noah Missbrenner each added two singles and an RBI.
In the final game, Cyr, Braiden Umel and Hews limited Holbrook to one run on one hit to advance to the championship round.
Hewes contributed a two-run double and single for Brewer/Orrington (3-1) while Andrews chipped in with a double, single and two RBIs. Wood and Daniel Sprague each added two singles, with Wood driving in a run. Cyr had an RBI double.

State tourney, 9-10 all-stars
Westbrook, Saco are 3-0
At Ellsworth on Sunday, Westbrook and Saco both recorded their third victories in the state tourney for ages 9-10 with Westbrook stopping Ellsworth 12-2 in the day’s first game and Saco edging Lewiston 5-4 in the third game.
Waldo County beat Bangor West 11-4 in the day’s second game.
In the first game, Carter Dow notched the pitching win and helped his cause with a double as Westbrook prevailed. Carson Dow and Ben Eugley each added a double and Alex Bean had a single.
Lucas Gagnon had a double for Ellsworth.
In the second game, Waldo County’s Noah Hurd recorded two triples and a single while also earning the pitching win over Bangor West.
Draedyn Furrow added two singles for Waldo County and Curtis Littlefield had one.
Matt Holmes doubled twice to lead Bangor West. Scott Fahey chipped in with three singles and Caleb Robbins added two.
In the third game, Will Palmer hit a triple and singled twice to help Saco edge Lewiston. Brady Graffam and Braden Camire each added a double and winning pitcher Pavel Tarpy singled twice.
Mike Dymkowski paced Lewiston with two singles. Daxton St. Hilaire added a double and Matt Connor had a single.
Westbrook, Ellsworth, Saco post wins
At Ellsworth on Saturday, Westbrook shut out Lewiston 11-0, Ellsworth edged Waldo County 7-6 and Saco beat Bangor West 7-0 in the second day of pool play during the state tourney for ages 9-10.
In the first game Carter Down recorded three singles to back up winning pitcher Quincy Seavey. Seavey aided his cause with two singles and Alec Hodgkins added a double.
Matt Connor singled for Lewiston.
In the second game, Brett Bragdon slammed a triple and double to spark Ellsworth. Michael Palmer contributed three singles and Peter Keblinsky singled twice. Craig Burnett was the winning pitcher.
Noah Hurd recorded two doubles for Waldo County while Draedyn Furrow added two singles and Will Robbins had a single.
In the final game, Braden Camire and AJ Thibodeau each doubled to lead Saco. Will Palmer and Will Davies each added a single and Palmer was also the winning pitcher.
D3, 10-11 all-stars
Bangor West 4, Houlton 3
At Houlton, Joey Morrison, Max Clark and Brady Hand each notched a single and an RBI to help Bangor West beat Houlton and capture the District 3 championship for ages 10-11.
Bangor West advanced to the state tourney, which begins Saturday in Millinocket.
Winning pitcher Gavin York struck out five and gave up six hits.
Collin Moody sparked Houlton with two singles and an RBI, Kurtis Reynolds added a single and an RBI and Jadon Gentle had a double.
The game ended with a lineout to the second baseman with runners on first and third.
D1, 11-12 all-stars
Acadians 13, Machias 1
At Machias, Porter Isaacs hit a grand slam in the second inning and Nate Philbrook added a two-run homer to help the Acadians of Bar Harbor beat Machias to win the District 1 tourney title for ages 11-12 and advance to the state tourney next weekend in Waldoboro.
Logan Beck chipped in with a double and two singles for the Acadians. Jack DeCorte and Ethan Merchant each contributed two singles while Brady Renault and Grady Wellman-Webster each singled.
Winning pitcher Sam Mitchell struck out five.
Zain Fitzsimmons and Cecil Gray each notched a single for Machias.

At Bangor West, Isaac Bushway pitched 5 ⅓ solid innings to help Bangor West beat Old Town and claim the District 3 championship for ages 11-12.
Bradley McLaughlin recorded three singles while Drew Dorr added two singles and a double to lead Bangor West’s 13-hit attack. Rhett McDonald chipped in with two singles while Carson Prouty and Jeremiah Bourbon each added a double.
Zach Dill sparked Old Town with a single and a double while Joseph DeAngelo added two singles.
D1, Junior League all-stars
Ellsworth, Acadians to vie for district crown
In the District 1 Junior League tourney on Saturday, Ellsworth beat Coastal 17-2 and then the Acadians 4-1 to set up a District 1 championship game with the Acadians at 6 p.m. Monday.
In the first game, Jared Hamilton drove in seven runs with two triples and a single in leading Ellsworth by Coastal. Percy Zentz added two doubles, a single and an RBI while Tyler Mitchell singled twice. Matt Burnett and Mitchell pitched for Ellsworth.
Silas Bates tripled and drove in a run to lead Coastal and Parker Snow added a single and an RBI.
In the second game, Bradly Smith allowed just three hits and struck out 14 to help Ellsworth advance.
Hamilton doubled and drove in a run for Ellsworth while Zentz added two singles and an RBI. Sam Horne chipped in with a double and an RBI and Smith singled.
Jacob MItchell doubled and drove in a run for the Acadians and Drew Shea and Liam Sullivan each added a single.

State tourney, 9-10 all-stars
Ellsworth vs. Biddeford in state final
At Ellsworth, tourney host Ellsworth will battle Biddeford for the state title in Little League softball for ages 9-10 at 4 p.m. Monday after each team finished first in pool play in their respective divisions over the weekend.
Both state finalists picked up wins on Sunday when Ellsworth edged South Portland 3-1 and Biddeford beat Lincoln 6-2.
In the first game, Casey Carter recorded 10 strikeouts to help Ellsworth earn the win. She also aided the offense with a single, as did Alicia Havey.
Hylaw Owen sparked South Portland with two singles while Avery Crepeau and Sam Duffy each added one.
In the second game, Charlotte Donovan struck out 15 and helped her cause with a double to help Biddeford prevail. Laura Perreault added a double while Cheyenne Tardiff and Hannah Gosselin each contributed a single.
Erika Laduke and Morgan Duhaime had a single apiece for Lincoln.
Both Biddeford and Ellsworth picked up victories on Saturday when Biddeford beat South Portland 8-1 and Ellsworth defeated Lincoln 16-6.
Charlotte Donovan struck out 13 to pick up the win for Biddeford. Laura Perreault contributed two singles and Alissah Hannan added a single.
Hylaw Owen tripled for South Portland.
In the second game, Casey Carter and Alyssa Maguire each recorded a double and a single to lead Ellsworth by Lincoln.
Jane Wu added a double for Ellsworth while Victoria Watkins and Havey each added two singles. Winning pitcher Hannah Wagstaff struck out 11.
