SIDNEY, Maine — A trucker escaped injury Wednesday morning when his rig left Interstate 95 just north of Augusta, according to state police.
John Rancourt, 32, of Jay allegedly fell asleep at the wheel when his flatbed truck hauling 90,000 pounds of lumber left the northbound lanes at 6 a.m., Trooper Joseph Chretien said.
The truck hit a rock ledge on the side of the road, Chretien said, and no other vehicles were struck.
Rancourt was not seriously injured and walked away from the accident, the trooper said. The load spilled onto the interstate, forcing troopers to shut down one lane of traffic.
The interstate is expected to remain at one lane in the area throughout the day Wednesday as officials clean up the mess, Chretien said.
The truck was totaled.
