Sriracha is a magical elixir that makes most food better (macaroni and cheese, breakfast sandwiches, pizza, etc). It’s so popular that people have actually counterfeited the most famous brand’s version, and you can buy a litany of novelty products dedicated to it.
But it’s also pretty easy to make yourself.
Here’s a video from Vice with Lisa Murphy, who owns of Sosu Sauces in Oakland, California. She has a simple way to make a fermented version of the sauce that requires only the following ingredients:
- 2 pounds of chili peppers (like fresno, red jalapeno or red serrano) with the stems cut off
- 1/4 lb garlic
- 2 tbs sea salt
- fish sauce (optional)
- 1/4 cup sugar
Check out the video for the instructions, and let us know in the comments how it turned out.
