ST. GEORGE, Maine — A driver suffered minor injuries Monday afternoon after he fell asleep at the wheel and his car drifted off the road, ending up on top of a boulder.

Thomas Lloyd, 77, was driving his 2014 Toyota Corolla south on Route 131 shortly after 3 p.m. when he fell asleep, according to the Knox County Sheriff’s Office. The car veered across the road and off on the opposite side where it struck a ditch before coming to a stop atop a boulder.

Lloyd had minor injuries, according to the sheriff’s office, and was taken to Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport by St. George ambulance after the car was stabilized.

Members of the sheriff’s office, St. George Fire Department, St. George Rescue and the South Thomaston Fire Department were at the crash.
