CASCO, Maine — A 4-year-old child from Gray was killed early Tuesday and two adults seriously injured in a single-vehicle crash on Poland Spring Road.
Cameron Peterson, 4, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which took place at 5:55 a.m. on Poland Spring Road, also known as Route 11, a half-mile west of Quaker Ridge Road, according to a release from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office
Peterson was a passenger in a black 1993 Honda Civic driven by 28-year-old Michael Minson of Gray. Minson was headed west on Poland Spring Road, passed another vehicle and lost control of the car, crossing the center line and striking a Central Maine Power pole on the eastbound side.
Upon impact, the vehicle split in two, ejecting the child. According to the sheriff’s office, it is not clear whether Cameron Peterson was in a child safety seat.
Minson was taken to Maine Medical Center with serious injuries, as was 27-year-old Crystal Peterson of Gray, Cameron Peterson’s mother. Her injuries are considered serious but not life-threatening.
The Windham Police Reconstruction Team assisted the sheriff’s office at the scene. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
