PORTLAND, Maine — A man was seriously injured early Thursday when his motorcycle slammed into a pickup truck at the intersection of State and Grant streets, city police said.

The 27-year-old man from Freeport, whose name was not disclosed, allegedly failed to stop for the stop sign on Grant Street and crashed into the passenger side of the pickup, according to Lt. James Sweatt.

The motorcyclist was brought to Maine Medical Center for serious injuries. The pickup’s driver, a 23-year-old Sebago woman, and her 39-year-old male passenger from Harrison also were brought to the hospital as a precaution, Sweatt said.

Speed appears to be a factor in the accident, which remains under investigation. Any witnesses are urged to call Portland police at 874-8532.
