DEXTER, Maine — A local man was arrested Sunday evening after an alleged assault on his 8-year-old child, according to the town’s police chief.

Police were called to a Lincoln Street residence after a report that Michael Dami, 55, allegedly struck the child in the face, Dexter police Chief Kevin Wintle said.

Wintle said the child was misbehaving when Dami allegedly brought the child into a bedroom and struck the child in the face. The child was not seriously injured.

Dami was asked by the child’s mother to leave the residence, and she subsequently called police, Wintle said. Dami was located shortly thereafter and arrested without incident.

Dami was accused of domestic violence assault and taken to the Penobscot County Jail. His bail conditions prohibit him from returning to the residence where the assault took place or having any contact with the child or the child’s mother, Wintle said.
