BANGOR, Maine — The woman shot by a Penobscot County sheriff’s deputy in June in Carmel after she allegedly threatened people with a “homemade weapon” that resembled a medieval flail was indicted Wednesday by the Penobscot County grand jury.
Alexis Lannon, 20, of Bangor was indicted on two counts of criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon and three counts of criminal mischief
Lannon is accused of damaging property and threatening people with a weapon on June 28. Deputy Kari Kurth shot and wounded Lannon at the Route 2 scene when Lannon “advanced toward” her with the weapon, according to a statement released by the sheriff’s office.
She remained at the Penobscot County Jail on Wednesday night unable to post $5,000 cash bail.
An arraignment date has not been set.
If convicted, Lannon faces up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $5,000 on the criminal threatening charges alone.
The Maine attorney general’s office, which investigates all officer-involved shootings, is reviewing the case, spokesman for the attorney general’s office Tim Feeley said in a Thursday email.
Kurth has returned to duty after the completion of an internal review, according to Sheriff Troy Morton.
In an unrelated case, an Alexandria, Virginia, woman was indicted on two counts of aggravated assault for allegedly stabbing two strangers in June at the Bangor Mall.
Elizabeth Ellis, 34, allegedly approached two women from behind — neither of whom she knew — and stabbed them. Each victim suffered a single stab wound to her shoulder. Both were taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center, where they were treated and then released, according to a previously published report.
After the alleged assaults, Ellis drove to Farmington, where she later turned herself in to police.
An arraignment date has not been set.
She remained in the custody of the Penobscot County Jail on Wednesday night but boarded at the Washington County Jail in Machias.
If convicted, Ellis faces up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $20,000 on each count.
