BUXTON, Maine — Some majestic and aristocratic stallions are in Maine for the public to see and to raise money for a Buxton farm program.
For the third year, the Royal Lipizzan Stallions are at Hearts and Horses Farm in Buxton.
“These horses were bred to be war horses, that was the history and they were only for royalty,” says owner Gabby Herrmann. The horses have been in her family for hundreds of years.
The stallions will be in Buxton this weekend and next weekend and a third of the proceeds will go towards the farm’s therapeutic riding center.
“Here you have in the town of Buxton a place that offers so much for children with special needs,” mom Lori Bartlett says. Her daughter Katie has severe vision impairment and low muscle strength.
“She carries herself very, very well and often times if you didn’t know it, you wouldn’t know she has a visual impairment,” Bartlett says.
The farm wants to use the money for other projects, too.
“[In] 2016 our goal is to start a veterans program to work with PTSD and vets here at the farm with horses mounted and unmounted activities,” says Executive Director of Hearts and Horses Stephanie Keene.
The shows start Friday and run through next weekend. For tickets or to ask questions, call the farm at 929-4700.
