FREEPORT, Maine — A Freeport woman was arrested Thursday afternoon on multiple charges after police say she refused to stop for an officer who was directing traffic, then sped away.
Bonnie B. Davenport, 56, was charged with assault, refusing to submit to arrest or detention, failing to obey a traffic officer’s directions, imprudent speed and using a motor vehicle to make unnecessary noise by accelerating.
Just before 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Davenport was headed into town on Bartol Island Road when she allegedly failed to stop for an officer who was directing traffic around a wrecker, Freeport police Lt. Susan Nourse said.
Davenport allegedly sped from the scene, squealed her tires, and when the officer stopped her on Torrey Hill Range Road, she allegedly opened her car door and hit the officer, according to Nourse.
Nourse said Davenport then allegedly refused to submit to arrest and was handcuffed and taken to the police station. She was released on $500 cash bail. A court date was not available Friday afternoon.
