BANGOR, Maine — A bag of belongings left on a downtown bench by a transient prompted police to bring in a bomb-sniffing dog Wednesday, Bangor police Sgt. Tim Cotton said.
Cotton said a resident called police after finding the bag locked to a bench near Bangor Savings Bank, Cotton said.
The police dog’s inspection of the bag deemed it to be free of explosives, the sergeant said.
Clothing and a DVD player were found inside, and the items were brought to the Bangor police station for safekeeping.
Cotton said it appears the owner locked the bag on the bench to prevent it from being stolen.
