NORRIDGEWOCK, Maine — A Massachusetts man is facing charges after an accident on Route 201A in Somerset County on Wednesday, according to the sheriff’s department.
Deputy Corporal David Cole responded to a report that Wesley Lane, 35, had been driving erratically but while en route received another report the vehicle had crashed, Chief Deputy James Ross said.
Lane apparently loaded items from the crashed car into another vehicle that picked him up, but Cole was able to intercept that car and return Lane to the scene of the accident, Ross said.
It was then the deputy learned the crashed car had been stolen out of Sandwich, Massachusetts, earlier in the day, in addition to a residence from which the vehicle was taken, according to Ross.
Items recovered matched those stolen from the Bay State residence.
Lane was charged with drunken driving, leaving the scene of an accident and possession of stolen property. Sheriff’s deputies are assisting Massachusetts officials into the burglary and theft investigations.
Lane had been in the area to attend a music festival.
