GUILFORD, Maine — A Hartland man was lucky to escape major injury Thursday when the logging truck he was driving overturned on Route 150, according to the Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Office.
Francis Tuttle, 59, was traveling south when he lost control on a sharp corner, according to Deputy David Wilson.
The crash was reported around 12:30 p.m. Wilson said Tuttle may have been traveling too fast around the corner; his truck hit the shoulder, causing his load to shift and the truck to roll over.
The full load of logs subsequently spilled into a ditch, Wilson said, but no logs spilled into the road.
Tuttle was trapped in his upside-down cab for about 25 minutes before Guilford firefighters freed him, Wilson said. His injuries were not considered life-threatening, and he was brought to Mayo Regional Hospital.
“It was pretty amazing that he didn’t sustain greater injuries,” Wilson said.
A state police commercial truck unit went to the scene, along with sheriff’s deputies and Guilford firefighters. The road was closed until about 5 p.m.
