FARMINGTON, Maine — A motorcyclist suffered minor head injuries when he crashed into the side of a car Friday afternoon, according to local police.

Peter Rines, 45, of Starks was riding a Honda motorcycle and trying to turn left from Knowlton Corner Road onto Wilton Road, also known as Route 2, when the crash happened around 1:40 p.m., Farmington police Sgt. Michael Adcock said Saturday morning, reading from a crash report.

Boyd Bachelder, 68, of Phillips was driving a Chevrolet Cavalier northeast on Wilton Road when a blue sedan pulled out in front of him, forcing him to hit the brakes, according to Adcock. At that same time, Rines was turning on to Route 2 and didn’t anticipate the Cavalier’s sudden stop, according to police.

Rines’ motorcycle struck the side of the Cavalier, sending Rines to the ground. He was not wearing a helmet and suffered head injuries that were not life-threatening, police said.

The Cavalier’s side doors were dented but its occupants unhurt, Adcock said. The motorcycle was towed away.

Adcock said officers would like to know who the driver of the blue car was, but have few details to go on.

No charges are pending, according to police.
