WISCASSET, Maine — A 26-year-old woman faces a number of charges following an alleged “road rage” incident Tuesday morning on Bath Road.

Elizabeth Brown of Belfast was charged with driving to endanger and leaving the scene of a property damage accident, and drug charges are pending, according to a release from Wiscasset Police Chief Troy Cline.

Wiscasset police arrested Brown later Tuesday morning after a 61-year-old Freeport man said her car approached his at a high rate of speed near Holbrook Road, and when he steered toward the center line of the road, Brown’s vehicle drifted to the right and then passed him in the breakdown lane, narrowly missing his vehicle.

The man said that when he attempted to pull closer to Brown’s car in order to see descriptive information, she “slammed on her vehicle’s brakes without cause” and Davis’ vehicle struck the back of her car, causing minor damage to both vehicles.

Brown then allegedly left the scene, continuing north on Bath Road, and Davis pursued her, honking his horn in an effort to get her to stop. While in an area posted at 25 miles per hour, Brown then allegedly “slammed on her brakes” again, causing another rear-end crash, and then made an obscene gesture toward the man.

According to Cline, an investigation revealed Brown was on probation, and on the order of her probation officer, Cline conducted a drug and alcohol test that tested positive for prescribed medication as well as amphetamines.

A search conducted by Cline after Brown “made furtive movements while getting belongings out of” the vehicle allegedly revealed a bottle containing Bacardi rum.

Brown reportedly refused a breath test as required by probation conditions. She remains in Two Bridges Regional Jail on a probation hold pending a court appearance.
