PORTLAND, Maine — Portland will be looking for a new fire chief soon, as Chief Jerome LaMoria announced his resignation Tuesday, according to a release from the city.
LaMoria has guided the city’s 235-member fire and emergency management department since 2013, according to the statement.
“Chief LaMoria has been a great leader who has overseen the Fire Department during a time period that included a number of organizational changes that will carry the department into the future,” City Manager Jon Jennings said in the statement. “While we are sad to lose his leadership, we wish him all the best in his future endeavors.”
“I want to express my deep admiration for the excellent work and dedication that the men and women of the Fire Department display every day,” LaMoria said in the statement. “I am very proud of the service they provide to this great city, and I am grateful to have had the opportunity to serve this department.”
LaMoria’s last day will be Oct. 20, and an interim chief will be announced at a later date while there is a search for a permanent chief.
