TENANTS HARBOR, Maine — A Tenants Harbor husband and wife awaiting trial for allegedly importing bath salts from China were arrested Monday, accused of growing nearly 150 marijuana plants at their home.

Edward Thorbjornson Jr., 55, and Stephanie Thorbjornson, 46, were arrested Monday and charged with felony cultivation of marijuana and violating a condition of release. They remain at the Knox County Jail in Rockland pending their initial appearance Wednesday afternoon in Knox County Unified Court.

MDEA special agent Scott Quintero was conducting a bail check on the couple when the woman said she would not consent and instead would call her lawyer, according to an affidavit filed by the agent. The officer handcuffed the woman who resisted, according to the court document.

When the officer went inside the home, Edward Thorbjornson said they were growing medical marijuana for five patients, according to the affidavit. The investigation determined, however, that some of the people who they claimed to be growing the marijuana for were not their patients.

A check of the basement and outside found 148 plants.

The Thorbjornsons had been released on bail after being arrested in April and charged with importing bath salts.

Defense attorney Jeremy Pratt said Wednesday he has filed motions to suppress evidence in the bath salts case. Pratt said he is confident his clients will be found not guilty in that case.
