BRUNSWICK, Maine — A 53-year-old construction worker was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland on Monday morning with suspected neck and back injuries after roof trusses collapsed on him at a construction site.
Arvo Krosman and three other workers were installing roof trusses at the one-and-a-half-story home under construction at 52 Carriage Lane at about 10:47 a.m. when the wood trusses began to fall, knocking Krosman to the ground from the second story, Brunswick Police Officer Daniel Sylvain said in a release.
Eighteen 40-foot-long trusses “dominoed over” and collapsed, pushing Krosman off to the side, according to Capt. Matt Barnes of the Brunswick Fire Department.
One worker jumped out a back window and another escaped injury, Barnes said, but no other injuries were reported.
Barnes said crews are fortunate no one was killed. The job site was shut down and will be cordoned off for the rest of the day.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration will investigate.
Krosman’s condition was not available Monday evening.
