BRADLEY, Maine — Voters in town wrote in one name 23 times during Tuesday’s election and selected a local man to fill one opening on the RSU 34 school board, Town Manager Melissa Doane said Tuesday.

John Milligan got the 23 votes and Ann Delaware came in second with three votes out of the 190 who cast ballots, said Doane, who received votes from two residents.

“Twenty miscellaneous others got one vote each,” the town manager said.

Doane sent Milligan an email early Wednesday informing him of the vote tally, and he officially accepted the position later in the day.

He’ll be sworn in at the December school board meeting, the town manager said.

Incumbent Mildred Cannon said earlier this week that she decided not to run, in part because her daughter moved to Florida and she expects to be gone for portions of the year.

The nine-member RSU 34 school board had a total of three seats up for grabs on Tuesday, with two others filled in Old Town by school board incumbent James Dill, with 674 votes, and newcomer Brooke Gardner, with 539 votes. Incumbent Roxanne Dubey, with 421 votes, came in third.
