PORTLAND, Maine — A Rhode Island man indicted last month on one count of traveling interstate to have sex with a minor last year has been arrested in Massachusetts.
William McNeill, 23, of Cumberland, Rhode Island, was arrested Tuesday, according to the U.S. attorney’s office.
McNeill was indicted on Oct. 21 by a federal grand jury in Portland for allegedly traveling on Oct. 18, 2014, to have sex with a minor in Maine.
His arraignment date has not been set, according to information posted on the court’s electronic case filing system.
Details about the alleged incident, including the exact age of the minor or how McNeill might have met her, were not included in the indictment.
The press release issued by the federal prosecutor’s office about his arrest said the “joint investigation was conducted by the Naval Criminal Investigative Service and the Bridgton Police Department.”
If convicted, McNeill faces up to 30 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
