MONACA, Pennsylvania — Ericka Saucier recorded 22 points and nine rebounds to lead the University of Maine-Fort Kent women’s basketball team by Carlow University 79-73 to win the Park Inn Invitational championship Sunday.
UMFK hit 21 of 29 free throws in the win and took the lead with 4:25 left in the game against Carlow of Pittsburgh.
Ahjahana Coleman added 21 points for UMFK (6-0) and Romanalyn Inocencio contributed 16 points and five rebounds.
UMFK advanced to the final by beating Penn State Beaver 109-82 on Saturday.
Coleman paced UMFK with 31 points, seven assists and six steals while Saucier added 26 points and 10 rebounds. Ifeoma Okara contributed 19 points and eight rebounds.
Khalia Adams led PSU with 29 points and Asia Borders added 23.
Maine Maritime 75, UMPI 28
At Castine on Saturday, Alayne Felix scored 16 points and grabbed six rebounds to lead the Mariners to a win against the Owls in the opener of the Mariner Classic.
Amanda Holewiak posted a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds and Tess Clark provided 10 points and seven rebounds for Maine Maritime Academy (1-0).
Amanda Hotham paced the University of Maine-Presque Isle (0-1) with 11 points and six rebounds.
UMass Boston 55, MMA 37
At Castine on Sunday, UMass Boston outscored Maine Maritime 8-0 to close out the fourth quarter for a 43-32 lead en route to the win in the Pepsi Mariner Challenge championship game.
The Beacons went on the 8-0 run after the Mariners had cut their lead to three.
The Beacons went on another 8-0 run late in the game to secure the win.
Tournament MVP Olivia Murphy led the Beacons with a game-high 18 points, 16 rebounds and four blocks, while Taje Burston was named to the All-Tournament team, following an 11-point, five-assist and three-rebound performance.
Alayne Felix tallied a team-leading 17 points and 10 boards to lead MMA en route to All-Tournament honors, while Megan McLean added seven points and seven boards to also earn an All-Tournament nod.
UMaine-Presque Isle’s Kylee Alton and Endicott’s Hannah Keirnan were also named to the All-Tourney team.
Endicott 94, UMPI 50
At Castine, Kelsey Cuddy scored 19 points and Hannah Kiernan added 17 to lead Endicott (1-1) by UMaine-Presque Isle on Sunday in a Pepsi Mariner Challenge consolation game.
Kylee Alton scored 13 points and had six rebounds to lead UMPI (0-2). Amanda Hotham added nine points and nine rebounds.
Suffolk 62, UM-Farmington 48
At Boston on Saturday, Marissa Gudauskas netted 15 points to lead Suffolk past the University of Maine-Farmington.
Alexandra Nagri (5 assists) and Kelsey Schiebel scored 11 and 10 points, respectively for the winners.
Rhi Jackson paced the Beavers with 11 points and nine rebounds and Meghan Smith provided nine points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
Emerson 74, UMF 46
At Boston, Charlie Boyle scored 21 points, Sierra Ducey put in 15 and Eastin Ashby added 14 as Emerson (1-1) rolled by UMF on Sunday.
Meghan Smith paced UMF (0-2) with 15 points and 12 rebounds.
Men’s Basketball
Southern Maine 82, MMA 50
At Gorham on Saturday, Fred Knight scored all 10 of his points to help the Huskies build a 30-point halftime advantage in a victory over the Mariners.
Aaron Toman added 10 points for the University of Southern Maine, while Isaiah Patterson added eight points and six rebounds. The Huskies hit 14 3-pointers and shot 54 percent from the arc.
Brendan Newcomb tossed in a game-high 19 points for Maine Maritime Academy of Castine and Tyler Thayer added nine.
Fisher 65, UMFK 61
At Lynn, Massachusetts, on Saturday, Fisher took a three-point halftime lead and then held off UMaine-Fort Kent in the second to take the win.
Kyle Holmes paced Fisher with 24 points.
Joe McCloskey poured in 29 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead UMFK.
On Friday night, McCloskey recorded 18 points and 11 rebounds in UMFK’s 84-76 loss to the College of St. Joseph’s (Vt.). Jake Rioux added 11 points and Ron Kearse had 10.
Field Hockey
Bowdoin 3, Wellesley 0
At Brunswick on Sunday, Bowdoin used three first half goals to secure the team’s ninth trip to the NCAA Division III Final Four with the win over Wellesley at Ryan Field.
The top-ranked Polar Bears (20-0) collected their third consecutive quarterfinal win, dating back to a 2013 upset at Montclair State, after topping Wellesley (17-4) for the second time this season.
Rachel Kennedy converted a penalty stroke just four minutes into the game for Bowdoin’s first goal and added a second goal via a cross from Juliana Fiore.
Bowdoin scored the final goal with just seven minutes left in the first half as Kelsey Mullaney blasted a shot from outside the circle.
Lucy Hurlock finished with 10 saves for Wellesley and Clara Belitz had one for Bowdoin.
Bowdoin travels to the campus of Washington and Lee in Lexington, Virginia, for the NCAA semifinals on Saturday at 11 a.m. The Polar Bears will play Ursinus College.
Men’s Soccer
Brandeis 2, Thomas 1
At Waltham, Massachusetts, Josh Ocel scored on a 30-yard shot with 42.6 seconds remaining in regulation, lifting Brandeis to victory in an NCAA Division III tournament game on Saturday.
The North Atlantic Conference Champion Terriers (13-5-1) played a man down for almost 59 minutes after Willie Clemons received a red card.
Clemons had put Thomas College of Waterville on top, scoring at 13:26 off an assist from D.J. Nicholas. Brandeis (17-2-1) equalized 20:21 later when Patrick Flahive headed in a cross by Joshua Handler.
Brandeis, which outshot Thomas 33-5, did not require Ben Woodhouse to make any saves.
Joakim Sternas made 10 saves for the Terriers.
