WATERBORO, Maine — A local man was injured Monday night in an alleged hit and run on the West Road, according to York County Sheriff William King.

Bruce Weagle, 69, had been struck by a pickup truck shortly after 5 p.m., and the pickup reportedly continued without stopping, King said.

Weagle told deputies his dog had run off and he had gone out to search for it. He reportedly was struck by the pickup shortly after finding the dog, King said. The dog was not struck.

Weagle had been walking with the flow of traffic and had waved his arms upon seeing the truck approach, as he was wearing dark clothing, but the truck’s passenger side mirror struck Weagle’s left hand.

The impact caused part of the mirror to break off and the vehicle continued on. Weagle suffered bruises and lost feeling in his left hand for a moment. He was treated and released from Southern Maine Medical Center in Sanford.

The truck appears to be a full-size red pickup, but Weagle does not recall any other features of the vehicle. Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 324-1113.
