LEWISTON, Maine — A Lewiston man with autism who had been reported missing by his father Monday arrived in Los Angeles by bus early Wednesday, and arrangements have been made to get him home, according to a Lewiston police detective.
James Ross Allen, 18, arrived in Los Angeles on a Greyhound bus at 3 a.m. Pacific Standard Time on Wednesday, Detective Corey Jacques said.
Jacques said Allen was able to charge his cellphone and text his father, who advised him to speak to Los Angeles police, who subsequently made arrangements to fly Allen back east.
Allen, who emptied his bank account and boarded a bus to head West from Lewiston on Sunday, was tired and hungry but otherwise in good condition, according to Jacques.
The detective said California authorities were going to arrange to get Allen something to eat before he was scheduled to board a flight east around 6:30 a.m. Pacific time.
Allen is scheduled to arrive in Manchester, New Hampshire, around 9 p.m. Wednesday, where his parents will pick him up, according to Jacques.
“Fortunately, it was a good outcome,” the detective said.
