Kings suspend goalie following domestic assault charges
The Los Angeles Kings suspended goaltending prospect Patrik Bartosak after domestic-related charges, the team announced Wednesday.
Bartosak has been accused in Manchester, New Hampshire, of 12 domestic-related charges involving his girlfriend, including a felony assault charge alleging he tried to strangle her at an apartment.
Bartosak played for the American Hockey League’s Manchester Monarchs for two seasons. He moved with the Kings’ farm team, now called the Ontario Reign, to California. Bartosak had been in Manchester on an injury rehabilitation assignment and played Sunday night.
The Czech Republic native was drafted in the fifth round by the Kings in 2013.
The 22-year-old Bartosak was arrested Monday and waived arraignment Tuesday in circuit court in Manchester. He is scheduled for a hearing on the assault charge on Dec. 16 and faces trial on the 11 misdemeanors in January, including simple assault, criminal threatening and stalking. He is free on $10,000 bond.
Tigers acquire closer K-Rod from Brewers
The Detroit Tigers acquired right-handed closer Francisco Rodriguez from the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday.
The Brewers will receive minor league infielder Javier Betancourt and a player to be named later. The Tigers also will receive a player to be named in addition to Rodriguez.
The Tigers’ bullpen has ranked 27th in the majors with a 4.17 ERA over the past three seasons.
Rodriguez, who turns 34 in January, will make $5.5 million in 2016 with a $6 million option for 2017 that includes a $4 million buyout.
Rodriguez posted a 1-3 record, 2.21 ERA, 62 strikeouts and 38 saves over 60 games in 57 innings with the Brewers in 2015, while opponents batted just .189 against him. It marked his seventh season posting at least 35 saves.
Jays’ Travis out 4-5 months after surgery
Toronto Blue Jays second baseman Devon Travis had surgery on his left shoulder that might cause him to miss the start of the 2016 season.
The Blue Jays announced Wednesday that Travis will be sidelined from baseball activities for four to five months after a procedure for a rare pre-existing condition that affects approximately eight percent of the population.
The 24-year-old has Os Acromiale, which occurs when a bone at the top of the shoulder fails to fuse together.
The surgery, performed Tuesday in New York by Dr. David Altchek, involved inserting screws into Travis’s shoulder to stabilize the non-fused bone.
As a rookie in 2015, Travis went on the disabled list twice with recurrent inflammation and was limited to 62 games in which he batted .304 with eight home runs and 35 RBIs. He won the starting job out of spring training and started with a flourish before the injury issues began.

Washington Redskins running back Silas Redd has been suspended four games for violating the league’s substance-abuse policy, the NFL announced Wednesday.
Redd, who is currently on injured reserve after suffering a season-ending ACL injury in an August preseason game, will begin serving his suspension immediately and lose four game checks.
Redd, 23, signed with Washington as an undrafted free agent out of USC in 2014. He appeared in 14 games, rushing for 75 yards and one touchdown on 16 carries, along with eight receptions for 107 yards.
Spurs’ Ginobili will miss two games
Guard Manu Ginobili of the San Antonio Spurs will miss at least two games because of hip tightness, the team reported on Wednesday.
San Antonio (8-2) will be without the veteran guard for Wednesday night’s home game against Denver and Friday night’s game at New Orleans. He will be re-evaluated before Saturday’s game against Memphis.
Ginobili is averaging 11.7 points, 3.3 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.3 steals in nine games this season.
