FAIRFIELD, Maine — Officials from the Maine Department of Transportation will be busy Friday repairing a slew of potholes along the northbound lanes of Interstate 95, according to MDOT spokesman Ted Talbot.

Talbot said heavy rain overnight Thursday into Friday opened up the potholes in a half-mile span of interstate that is being repaved. The issue came to the forefront when multiple drivers reported having tire problems after going through the area.

The spokesman said state police were en route to the area Friday morning to conduct a rolling closure, in which traffic heading north will be stopped for about 10-15 minutes so crews can work on repaving the potholes.

Another such rolling closure will occur at 9 p.m. Friday, and the speed limit has been reduced to 45 miles per hour in the area, Talbot said.
