ROCKLAND, Maine — The ferry service between Rockland and Vinalhaven was not running Friday because of poor weather conditions, according to Maine Department of Transportation Spokesman Ted Talbot.

Talbot said the 10:30 a.m. run between Rockland and Vinalhaven and the 1 p.m. run between Vinalhaven and Rockland were canceled for the day.

The service was halted because of heavy rain, high winds and high surf, Talbot said.

A storm system bringing rain and high winds was sweeping through the state Friday. Talbot later said the 12:30 p.m. service from North Haven to Rockland and the 2:15 from Rockland to North Haven also were canceled.
