GARDINER, Maine — Firefighters in Gardiner spent hours getting control of a fire on Wednesday on Old Brunswick Road.
Investigators said the fire destroyed the home.
Gardiner Fire Chief Al Nelson said, “It’s been a pretty stubborn fire for us. There’s a lot of debris, and fire got up into the knee walls, so we’ve been chasing it for a while.”
Nelson said nobody was home at the time of the fire and the call came in about 4:00 pm.
The chief said it’s too early to determine a cause but that the fire was probably an accident. The Red Cross is helping the homeowner.
