AUGUSTA, Maine — Two people sought by police after a homicide Monday night in their Washington Street apartment were questioned and released by police on Wednesday.

Zina Fritze, 27, and her boyfriend, Sean McQuade, 47, were found Wednesday by police at an apartment rented by friends in the same neighborhood, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland said Wednesday night in an email.

State police sought the two “to check on their well-being” after the body of 31-year-old Joseph Marceau was discovered in their fourth-floor apartment, McCausland said Tuesday night.

Damik Davis, 25, of New York was subsequently arrested and charged with murder in connection with the death. No cause of death has been released.

An investigation into the murder will continue through the weekend, McCausland said.
