BANGOR, Maine — Trevon Butler and Raheem Anderson each scored a game-high 30 points to lead the Husson University Eagles to a 93-78 men’s basketball victory over Maine Maritime Academy in the fifth annual Husson Sports Hall of Fame game in North Atlantic Conference action Saturday at Newman Gym.

Husson (3-1, 2-0 NAC) won its second straight while the Mariners of Castine (2-3, 1-1 NAC) dropped their last 51 of 53 matchups to the Eagles.

The Mariners led by as much as six points with 11:32 remaining in the first half, but the Eagles went on a 7-0 run to build a 25-21 lead courtesy of 18 points from Butler and 15 from Anderson, while Tyler Norris chipped in nine points and entered the intermission with the 48-34 advantage.

Butler led all players with nine rebounds while Norris contributed 11 points, seven boards and three steals. Zach Curran added 15 points.

Tyler Thayer led the Mariners with a career-high 26 points and three rebounds. Brendan Newcomb added 25 points and five rebounds, and Tyler Gilson contributed seven rebounds and 10 points.

Husson recognized the university’s 30th Sports Hall of Fame class during halftime: Shelby Bradford (2010, women’s soccer, women’s basketball, women’s lacrosse), Adam Duplisea (‘08, men’s golf), Randy Fletcher (‘03, men’s basketball), Joey Melanson (‘00, men’s soccer), Shane Rogers ‘10, (football) and the 1995 baseball team. Husson also retired the jersey of Husson Hall-of-Famer Bob Cimbollek (‘59).

UMM 89, SMCC 83

At South Portland on Saturday, Jorge Milo scored 18 of his 24 points in the second half to rally UMaine-Machias by Southern Maine Community College.

SMCC cut it to 84-81 with 19 seconds left, but Brandon Blakely nailed a 3-pointer to secure the UMM win.

Ben Teer chipped in with 20 points for UMM and Blakely added 15.

Jordan DeRosby paced SMCC with 16 points and eight rebounds. Zaire Wilson chipped in with 15 points, Ville Wuorenjuuri added 13 and Matthew Jarrett had 12.

Conn. College 86, UMPI 79

At New London, Connecticut, Connecticut College took a 10-point halftime lead and then held off UMaine-Presque Isle in the second half after the Owls had cut the lead down to one point.

Tyler Rowe paced Conn. College (3-2) with 15 points and Sean McNally added 14.

Chase Vicaire hit 5 of 8 3-pointers and finished 22 points to lead UMPI (3-4). Kevin Collins chipped in with 16 points and Brandon McGill added 12 points, eight rebounds and four assists.

Colby 86, Bowdoin 81

At Wadsworth Gym in Waterville, Colby outscored Bowdoin 8-2 over the final 1 minute, 5 seconds to notch the win.

Chris Hudnut scored 21 points to lead Colby (5-1) and Patrick Stewart contributed with 18 points, five rebounds and four assists. Sam Willson added 13 points and Ryan Jann had 12.

Lucas Hausman paced Bowdoin (3-3) with 22 points while Jack Simonds and Liam Farley each added 15 points. Matt Palecki contributed eight points and eight rebounds and Hugh O’Neil had 10 rebounds.

Thomas 83, Castleton 72

At Castleton, Vermont, the Terriers of Waterville battled to a one-point lead at halftime and then outscored the Spartans 52-42 in the second half to notch a North Atlantic Conference victory.

Adam Carlsen and Tyheem Simon each scored 16 points to lead Thomas (3-5, 1-2 NAC) while Simon also had eight rebounds. Carlos Gonzalez chipped in with 12 points, Dayne Savage added 11 and Andrew Middleton had 10.

Chad Copeland paced Castleton (3-4, 2-1) with 13 points and eight rebounds.

Women’s Basketball

Husson 72, MMA 60

At Newman Gym in Bangor on Saturday, five players hit double-figure scoring to propel the Eagles by Maine Maritime Academy of Castine.

MMA hit 50 percent (20 of 40) of its shots from the field, but struggled from the line (18 of 27, 67 percent) while the Eagles hit 19 of 21 shots from the line (91 percent).

Rebecca Young paced Husson (2-1, 2-0) with 18 points and Kenzie Worcester added 13. Kylie Richards and Victoria McIntyre each chipped in with 11 and Chandler Guerrette netted 10. McIntyre also had four assists and Worcester had four steals.

Alayne Felix recorded 18 points and seven rebounds to lead MMA (2-3, 1-1) and Mikayla Charters added 13 points while Kristi Willey had eight points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals.

UMPI drops two

The UMaine-Presque Isle Owls slipped to 0-8 after losing to Bay Path 90-87 on Saturday in Northfield, Vermont, followed by a 54-49 setback to Lesley on Sunday in Cambridge, Mass.

Bay Path led by margins of 20 before holding off UMPI. Dallas Jackson paced Bay Path with 30 points.

Amanda Hotham led UMPI with 18 points and 11 rebounds while Kylee Alton and Katie Patendaude each chipped in with 17 points. Janie Libby added 11 points.

Theresa Pereira sparked Lesley (1-7) with 20 points.

Hotham turned in an impressive double-double with 24 points and 20 rebounds.

St. Joseph’s 66, UMFK 53

At Waterville, Saint Joseph’s held UMaine-Fort Kent to just two points in the final 7:37 of hte fourth quarter en route to the victory on Saturday at the Colby College Women’s Basketball Classic.

Morgan Cahill paced St. Joe’s of Standish with 21 points, 10 rebounds, four blocked shots, two assists and two steals. Kelsi McNamara chipped in 16 points and Emily Benway added 12 points and seven rebounds.

Ericka Saucier recorded 16 points and 15 rebounds to lead UMFK (8-2). Romanalyn Inocencio chipped in with 14 points and four assists while Samantha Carapellucci chipped in with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

SMCC 70, UMM 34

At South Portland, Amira Jones scored 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds to help Southern Maine Community College roll by UMaine-Machias on Saturday.

Destinie Montano chipped in with 10 points and three assists for SMCC.

Alicen Brooks paced UMM with 12 points and Mariah Kirshman grabbed 10 rebounds.

UMF 76, Green Mountain 36

At Poultney, Vermont, Cheyenne Malloy scored 20 points to help UMaine-Farmington roll by Green Mountain on Saturday.

Meghan Smith added 15 points and four assists for UMF (3-4, 2-1 NAC).

Mercedes Rideout scored seven points to lead Green Mountain (0-5, 0-3).

Castleton 60, Thomas 30

At Castleton, Vermont, every player in the Castleton lineup scored at least three points or more in the North Atlantic Conference win Saturday.

Ali Jones’ 11 points topped Castleton (6-1, 2-1).

Ashleigh Gagne paced Thomas (1-5, 1-2) with 10 points.

Colby 66, St. Joseph’s 64

At Waterville, Carylanne Wolfington scored with 2.9 seconds left teammate Haley Driscoll stole the ball on St. Joseph’s last offensive attempt to give the Mules the victory over the Monks of Standish on Sunday.

Driscoll finished with 17 points to lead Colby (6-1) while Wolfington added 11 points, three assists and three steals. Mia Diplock chipped in with 12 points and four assists.

Mogan Cahill hit 11 of 16 shots from the field and finished with 25 points to lead St. Joe’s (6-2). She also had 13 rebounds. Kelsi McNamara added 12 points and Emily Quirion had 10.
