GARDINER, Maine — A Bronx, New York, man was arrested on Wednesday in connection with a heroin investigation in the Gardiner area, state police said.
Tyrone Sanders, 27, is facing four charges of trafficking in scheduled drugs and one count of aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs, according to Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland.
In addition, Sanders is also accused of falsifying physical evidence and violating his bail, McCausland said.
Drug agents assigned to the MDEA’s South Central Task Force have been working for several months with Gardiner police on an investigation involving Sanders distributing heroin. McCausland said one undercover purchase occurred in a school zone.
On Wednesday, drug agents, Gardiner police and Kennebec County sheriff’s deputies raided two residences where Sanders was alleged to be selling drugs, and seized were $1,500 in alleged drug money, a small amount of cocaine and other evidence of drug trafficking.
McCausland said Sanders was attempting to destroy evidence as he was taken into custody at a Brunswick Avenue residence.
In addition to Sanders’ arrest, Nicole Stump, 29, of Gardiner was arrested and charged with violation of her bail, as agents suspected she had recently used drugs, McCausland said.
Bail has not been set for Stump while Sanders’ was set at $50,000 cash. Both are being held at the Kennebec County Jail.
