PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The University of Maine-Presque Isle Owls hit 54 percent of their shots from the field to record an 89-69 men’s basketball victory over the Unity College Rams Thursday night.
Kevin Collins hit 8 of 13 shots from the field to spark a 34-of-63 team effort as UMPI improved to 4-5. Collins finished with 18 points and also had five rebounds and two assists. Brandon McGill chipped in with 13 points in the balanced attack while Maurice Harris, Derek Healy and Quinton Harris each chipped in with 12 points.
McGill also grabbed eight rebounds and Harris had seven as UMPI enjoyed a 41-15 team advantage.
Eddie Kopacz poured in 37 points to pace Unity (2-6). Hunter Engel contributed 15 points and five assists.
Bates 89, St. Joseph’s 63
At Lewiston, Jerome Darling and Josh Britten combined to make 10 threes in the game, and both scored career highs to lead Bates.
Darling finished with a game-high 17 points with five assists and five rebounds. Britten also made 5-of-8 from three to score 15.
John Crawley led St. Joe’s (3-6) with 15 points, while Ben Malloy came off the bench for 12 points. Ian Mileikis posted eight points with six rebounds and four assists.
Women’s Basketball
St. Joseph’s 61, Bates 54
At Lewiston, Morgan Cahill led the way with 27 points, 16 rebounds, three assists and three blocked shots as St. Joseph’s College defeated Bates in a non-conference game at Alumni Gymnasium.
Cahill made 13-of-16 shots from the field and grabbed 15 of her rebounds off the defensive glass, leading St. Joe’s (7-2) to a 41-38 rebounding advantage. Allie Coppola had a team-high 13 points with nine rebounds for Bates (2-6), while Nina Davenport contributed her first double-double of the season with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
