PORTLAND, Maine — For the fourth time this week, a New York City man has been arrested and charged with selling heroin in Maine, according to Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland.
Jomo Cunningham, 22, of Brooklyn was arrested Thursday night at the Clarion Hotel on Congress Street, according to McCausland.
Drug agents have been investigating heroin distribution in the Portland area by Cunningham over the last couple of months, McCausland said. A number of undercover purchases from Cunningham were made during the course of the investigation.
Cunningham would routinely stay at Portland-area hotels, distributing heroin. Sixty grams were seized from his room Thursday, McCausland said. Sixty grams is equivalent to 600 doses.
In addition, digital scales, packaging materials and suspected drug proceedings were seized. McCausland said the value of the heroin is $8,400.
Cunningham marks the fourth New York City man arrested in the state on heroin selling charges this week. Two were arrested on the Maine Turnpike in Kennebunk and another in Gardiner. Officials from the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency, Cumberland County District Task Force and Portland police collaborated in Cunningham’s arrest.
Cunningham is being held on $25,000 bail at the Cumberland County Jail. More arrests are anticipated as the investigation continues.
