CASTINE, Maine — Maine Maritime Academy’s Tess Clark hit two free throws with 11 seconds left in the game to help seal a 54-49 women’s basketball victory for the Mariners over the New England College Pilgrims Friday night.
MMA had led by as much as eight points in the fourth quarter, but NEC chipped away and cut it to 50-49 when Marjani Lillard nailed a 3-pointer with 13 seconds left.
Clark responded two seconds later and teammate Mikayla Charters hit more more foul shots with two seconds left.
Clark finished with 18 points to lead the Mariners (4-3, 2-1 North Atlantic Conference). She also grabbed nine rebounds and had three assists. Alayne Felix chipped in with 13 points and 11 rebounds while Kristi Willey added 10 points.
Breana Ramirez led NEC (5-4, 0-3) with 15 points and eight rebounds and Utshana Durham added 10 points. Tiffany Davis had 12 rebounds.
Husson 69, Colby-Sawyer 45
At Newman Gym in Bangor, Husson surged to a 31-20 lead at halftime and then outscored Colby-Sawyer 29-11 to roll to the win.
Kenzie Worcester recorded 17 points, five rebounds and four steals to lead Husson (3-1, 3-0). Chandler Guerrette added 15 points while Rebecca Young chipped in with 12 points, six rebounds and two assists.
Lexi Iannone paced the Chargers (4-3, 2-1) with nine points and Jessica Shenkel added eight.
Men’s Basketball
Husson 90, Colby-Sawyer 86
At Newman Gym in Bangor, Raheem Anderson scored four of Husson’s six points in the last 1:04 of overtime to lift the Eagles by Colby-Sawyer.
Two free throws by Colby-Sawyer’s Peter Donato gave the Chargers an 86-84 lead with 1:32 left, but Anderson responded with a jumper and teammate Eli Itkin followed with a layup to give Husson an 88-86 lead with 25 seconds left. Anderson added two free throws with a second remaining to secure the win.
Anderson sent the game into overtime when he nailed a 3-pointer at the buzzer to tie it at 81. Colby-Sawyer had taken an 81-78 lead on two Wol Majong free throws with nine seconds left in regulation.
Anderson poured in 35 points to lead Husson (4-2, 3-0 NAC). He also had seven rebounds, three assists and three steals. Tyler Norris chipped in with 18 points while Trevon Butler contributed 14 points and 12 rebounds.
Majong paced Colby-Sawyer (5-3, 1-2) with 21 points, Milani Hicks added 19 and Donato put in 17.
MMA 82, NEC 64
At Castine, Maine Maritime outshot the Pilgrims from the floor, 56.9 percent to 37 percent, en route to the win.
In the first half, the two teams went back-and-forth before MMA’s Tyler Thayer hit a deep-three as time expired to send the Mariners into the break with a 44-40 lead.
Maine Maritime went on a nine-point run to open up the second half, taking a 53-40 lead with 15:23 remaining. At 10:57, Thayer sparked another nine-point run, contributing six of those points, to put the Mariners ahead 71-53.
Thayer led the Mariners (3-4, 2-1) with a game-high 19 points, while leading the team with seven assists, and pulling down five boards. Dylan Stevens ended the night with 18 points, four assists, and three rebounds while Brendan Newcomb tallied 16 points, five assists and four rebounds. Tyler Gilson contributed 15 points, nine rebounds and three blocks.
Dezron Wilson led the Pilgrims (3-5, 1-2) with 18 points, seven assists and three rebounds.
Bowdoin 95, UMF 48
At Brunswick, Bowdoin rolled to a 52-27 halftime lead en route to the win.
Jack Simonds poured in 27 points, grabbed eight rebounds and blocked two shots to lead Bowdoin (5-3). Lucas Hausman chipped in with 19 points while Matt Pelecki contributed 11 points and seven rebounds. Bowdoin outrebounded UMF 44-23.
Nick Hilton packed UMF (0-8) with 13 points and Eric Berry added 12.
Bates 89, St. Joseph’s 63
At Lewiston Thursday night, Jerome Darling and Josh Britten combined to make 10 threes in the game, and both scored career highs to lead Bates.
Darling finished with a game-high 17 points with five assists and five rebounds. Britten also made 5-of-8 from three to score 15.
John Crawley led St. Joe’s (3-6) with 15 points, while Ben Malloy came off the bench for 12 points. Ian Mileikis posted eight points with six rebounds and four assists.
