BANGOR, Maine — A Penobscot County grand jury on Wednesday indicted two New York City men charged in connection with last month’s shootings at a Center Street apartment.

Robert “Rocco” Hansley, 27, and Thomas “Ferg” Ferguson, 37, were arrested on the night of Nov. 27. Earlier that morning, police say they shot and killed Robert Mark Kennedy, 38, and wounded another man, whom police have yet to identify.

Both men are charged with murder and elevated aggravated assault. Ferguson also is charged with tampering with a victim.

All court records tied to the case were sealed and unavailable Wednesday afternoon.

Timothy Feeley, spokesman for the attorney general’s office, declined to offer further information about the second victim, the crime or the investigation prior to the grand jury’s decision. He also declined to say what prompted the tampering charge against Ferguson.

Bangor police have declined to release further information, saying the case is in the hands of the attorney general.

An attorney representing one of the two defendants has said the people involved knew each other.

While officials haven’t released the name of the second victim, they have said he was able to speak with detectives after undergoing surgery at a local hospital and was expected to recover.

The defendants have extensive criminal histories in New York. Ferguson has been convicted of attempted murder, robbery and lesser charges since 1995, according to a criminal history record search obtained from the New York State Unified Court System. He was released from prison on parole in 2010.

Hansley has been convicted of drug and sex charges. He pleaded guilty in 2011 and 2012 in separate cases to criminal possession of marijuana. In each case, he was sentenced to time served. In February 2014, Hansley pleaded guilty to sexual misconduct and was later sentenced to one year in prison. He is listed on the New York sex offender registry.

Kennedy was born in Connecticut and has a criminal record in Maine that includes a felony burglary and misdemeanor convictions, according to his criminal history record obtained from the Maine State Bureau of Identification.

Kennedy was charged with possession of methamphetamine on Sept. 25 after being stopped by Brewer police for speeding, according to the Penobscot County district attorney’s office. He had not yet been indicted by the Penobscot County grand jury on the charge but was scheduled to appear at the Penobscot Judicial Center on Jan. 12.

If convicted of murder, each man faces between 25 years and life in prison.
