LAMOINE, Maine — A home on Needles Eye Road was leveled by fire Wednesday night, according to a posting on the town’s Facebook page.

Firefighters were dispatched around 11:30 p.m. and arrived to find the home completely engulfed in flames, the post read.

The homeowner was not home but returned after he was contacted by Hancock County sheriff’s deputies. A dog and cat survived, but the home was a total loss.

The residence was insured, and the man who owns the home has made arrangements to stay elsewhere. Firefighters from Lamoine, Ellsworth, Trenton and Hancock responded.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office will investigate, but the damage is so severe a cause likely will not be determined.
