THOMASTON, Maine — The town has scheduled a meeting for next week to determine whether there is public support to have the state perform the reconstruction of Route 1 during the night as well as during the day to cut down on the length of the project.

The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 11, at Watts Hall.

The current estimate by the state is that the reconstruction project will take 500 working days, which would amount to about three years. If some work can be done at night, the project would be completed in two years, the town stated in a news release issued Tuesday.

According to Town Manager Valmore Blastow, the Board of Selectmen felt it was important to have the public meeting to discuss the options because of the impact it will have on local residents and businesses as well as the traveling public.

The reconstruction will stretch from the Warren town line to Pine Street in Thomaston. The state and the town have been planning for the project since 2010.
