BANGOR, Maine — A reported threat at Bangor High School as classes ended Thursday was investigated by police, who determined it was “completely false,” Principal Paul Butler said Friday.
“The threat had to do with the school. It was about school safety,” Butler said, declining to provide further details. “A student who was close to the originator came forward … to quell the rumor.”
Butler said that “out of an abundance of caution” he called Bangor police who arrived about 3 p.m., just as school was ending for the day. Officers, who also worked on the case Friday morning, spoke to several students.
“After looking at it, it’s a confirmed rumor,” said Butler, who added that he spoke to every student involved and their parents, who all were cooperative.
A student’s verbal statement simply was misconstrued as it was repeated by others, according to Butler.
“There was no ill intent,” he said.
No charges are pending.
