More than 4,000 Emera Maine customers in Washington County were without electricity Friday morning, the company said in a statement.

The statement said a trio of car crashes caused the outages.

Communities affected include Jonesport, Beals, Beals Island, Dennysville, Eastport, Pembroke, Perry, Pleasant Point, Addison and East Machias.

Crews are working to replace the damaged utility poles as quickly as possible.

Customers are reminded to stay clear of downed power lines or a tree in contact with a line.

A dispatcher at Washington County Communications Center said none of the crashes involved serious injuries, and one was a tractor-trailer that rolled over and took out two poles in East Machias.

The dispatcher added slick roads because of snow in the area was the main culprit of the crashes.
