WINTERPORT, Maine — A Hermon man was arrested Saturday after he allegedly broke into a School Street home and punched his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend several times in the head while wearing brass knuckles.

Theodore Mcleod III, 31, also is accused of slashing several tires on two vehicles that were in the driveway at the time, Waldo County Sheriff Jeffrey Trafton said Tuesday in a news release.

The episode that led to Mcleod’s arrest occurred about 2:45 a.m., Trafton said. The complainant called 911 to report that someone had broken into his home and assaulted him.

Once he arrived, Deputy Greg Jones interviewed the victim and his girlfriend, who was present during the assault and who is Mcleod’s former girlfriend, Trafton said.

The victim was treated at his home by Winterport ambulance personnel, the sheriff said.

Jones contacted the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office, which located Mcleod at his home in Hermon.

Mcleod was arrested on charges of aggravated criminal trespass and aggravated criminal mischief, both of which are Class C felony charges punishable by up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $5,000.

After his arrest, Mcleod was taken to Waldo County Correctional Center, where he was later released on $1,000 cash bail, Trafton said.
