EASTPORT, Maine — A minor earthquake was reported at 6:56 a.m. Tuesday 6 miles off the coast of Eastport, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The earthquake measured a magnitude of 3.3, which classifies it as a minor earthquake, according to UPSeis, an educational site for budding seismologists.
The site also indicates this size earthquake is “often felt, but only causes minor damage.”
Chris Gardner, executive director of the Eastport Port Authority, reported no damage from the quake.
He said he did not feel anything. He was driving at the time.
“It’s been a neat talking point,” he said.
Tammy Hoche, who also works at the port authority, said the quake woke her up.
Her cats came running into the bedroom, and she heard a crash, which she thought was her Doberman breaking through his gate elsewhere in the house.
Facebook posts indicate the quake was felt in Pembroke, Whiting, Lubec and even Ellsworth.
