ROCKLAND, Maine — A Rockland man faces several charges after police say he crashed a stolen car Monday night.
Nicholas Gray, 21, of Rockland was arrested Wednesday and charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, leaving the scene of a property damage crash and failing to report a crash by quickest means.
The charges stem from a Monday night incident in which a 2008 Mazda sedan crashed into a utility pole at the intersection of Park and Oliver streets. The crash, which occurred at about 10:30 p.m., caused extensive front-end damage to the car.
The driver fled the scene, and officers learned the car had been reported stolen from the nearby Park Place apartments, according to the Rockland Police Department.
Following an investigation, Officer Jacob Shirey obtained an arrest warrant from the court and Officer Andrew Redden apprehended Gray on Wednesday night. Gray was taken to the Knox County Jail in Rockland and was released on bail later that night.
Gray did not appear to have any injuries, police said.
The utility pole did not need to be replaced.
