ROCKLAND, Maine — A 32-year-old Rockland man was arrested Monday morning and charged after an investigation into child pornography.
Jarrod Bergeron was arrested at his residence on Acadia Drive where the Maine State Police Computer Crimes Unit seized computers and cellphones on Dec. 15 as part of the investigation. Bergeron was taken to the Knox County Jail in Rockland on Monday on a charge of possession of sexually explicit materials.
Bail was set at $5,000 unsecured.
An affidavit filed in Knox County Unified Court in December by state police stated that the investigation began in September when the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children came upon a website where child pornography was being uploaded. The center assists families with children who are missing or being sexually exploited. The group also assists law enforcement officials when they discover child pornography.
The investigation led to an Ottawa, Illinois, man’s computer, which in turn led to two computer addresses in Maine — one for an inn in Camden and another for Bergeron’s residence, according to the affidavit. The investigation further determined that Bergeron worked at the Camden inn and that the inn provided wireless Internet access.
According to an inventory filed with the court, the list of what was taken from the home includes two laptops and numerous cellphones that can upload images.
Additional information about Bergeron’s arrest or the case was not immediately available.
