CORNVILLE, Maine — The state fire marshal’s office is investigating an early Friday morning fire that displaced three families from a local apartment building, according to a Somerset County emergency services dispatcher.
The fire on West Ridge Road was reported around 1:30 a.m., according to the county’s online emergency dispatch log. Firefighters from Cornville, Skowhegan, Madison and Norridgewock responded, the log indicated.
Attempts Saturday to contact Cornville Fire Department officials about the blaze were unsuccessful. A dispatcher with the county’s emergency communications office said Saturday that the state fire marshal’s office is investigating.
According to a report by the Morning Sentinel newspaper, the building used to house a general store but now has three apartments, all of which were occupied at the time of the fire. The blaze is believed to have been started when a candle was knocked over, the report indicated.
No significant injuries from the fire have been reported.
