ROCKPORT, Maine — Firefighters from Rockport and rangers from the Maine Forest Service quickly extinguished a brush fire early Sunday afternoon, keeping the damage at less than an acre, Rockport Fire Chief Jason Peasley said.

Peasley estimated that the burned area off Mount Pleasant Road was about 200 by 200 feet.

According to Peasley, the fire was the result of an unpermitted brush burn that got away from the property owner, whose name was not immediately available.

It was not immediately clear if the property owner would be charged in connection with the fire.
