CANTON, Ohio — The Canton Charge opened the fourth quarter on a 12-2 run on Wednesday night and went on to posts a 130-123 NBA D-League victory over the Maine Red Claws.
Maine (28-16) dressed only eight players after Tim Frazier left the team, signing a 10-day contract with the NBA’s New Orleans Pelicans. Maine’s starters scored 116 of the team’s 123 points.
The Red Claws led late into the third quarter, but couldn’t stop the hot-shooting Canton Charge and saw their season-high winning streak halted at seven games.
The Charge placed seven players in double figures, spearheaded by John Holland’s 27 points, along with 22 points each from Juvonte Reddic and Michael Stockton. Nick Minnerath posted 15 points and Sir’Dominic Pointer netted 14, while Chris Crawford and Lamar Patterson contributed 13 and 12, respectively.
Corey Walden led the way for Maine with 28 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists, while Malcolm Miller added 27 points on 11-for-12 shooting and Levi Randolph poured in 25 points and 6 rebounds. Marcus Thornton, making his first start, added 17 points, while Omari Johnson scored 16 points and grabbed 7 boards.
Both teams were red-hot in the first half, with Canton shooting 68 percent from the floor (28-41) and Maine shooting 65 percent (26-40) to forge a 64-64 tie.
The Red Claws led 83-77, but got outscored 18-5 the rest of the quarter and trailed 95-88 after three. Canton opened the fourth on a 12-2 run to take a double-digit lead and extended its advantage to 18 points.
Maine later cut the deficit to just five points, but that was as close as it would get.
