RICHMOND, Maine — A 59-year-old man was charged Monday with arson in connection with a barn fire Sunday night on Furlong Road.
Gary Martin, whose address is not listed, was charged by the state fire marshal’s office with arson. He also faces charges of burglary, criminal trespass and violation of bail conditions, according to a release from Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
Richmond police allegedly discovered Martin inside the barn at 1 Furlong Road, where he had been staying recently, McCausland said.
A fire was burning inside a grill and police allegedly found evidence of previous fires in several locations inside the barn, which they said were likely set by Martin to keep warm.
None of the fires had spread and there was little damage to the barn, McCausland said.
Martin is also a suspect in another burglary at a vacant home in Richmond last weekend, according to the release.
Martin remained at Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset on Monday afternoon, held on $10,000 bail.
No further information was immediately available.
