The Taste of Maine in Woolwich will host a benefit for the family of Kimi Hill, 4 to 9 p.m., Thursday, March 31.

Hill, of Wiscasset, died in Somerset County on Sunday, March 20. The Maine State Police are investigating the incident.

During A Night of Honor for Kimi Hill, the restaurant will donate 30 percent of sales to the Macie and Brody Benefit Fund. The restaurant’s servers will also donate 30 percent of their tips, organizer Brooke O’Leary said.

“We’re a community,” O’Leary said. “When something like this happens, it hits us hard. We’re hoping we can at least alleviate some of the financial burden (on the family).”

O’Leary’s mother, Candy Crooker-Gregory, owns the restaurant. The restaurant will also host a reception following Hill’s memorial service, and regularly organizes fundraisers for a variety of causes, O’Leary said.

O’Leary read about the Macie and Brodi Benefit Fund in Hill’s obituary and wanted to contribute. She met Hill for the first time only a few weeks ago, but said she was a “beautiful girl with a wonderful personality.”

The family was in support of the fundraiser and the event was organized to hopefully “make things just a little bit easier,” O’Leary said.

Donations can also be made directly to the Macie and Brody Benefit Fund for the benefit of Hill’s children, Macie and Brody Shiers. Donations may be mailed to the Macie and Brody Benefit Fund, c/o Madeleine Hill, P.O. Box 28, South Freeport, ME 04078.
