SHERMAN, Maine — Officials do not consider the blaze suspicious but have been unable to determine a cause of the fire that destroyed a single-story dwelling on Gallison Road Monday night.
Firefighters from departments in Sherman, Island Falls, Medway, Smyrna, Patten, Stacyville and Oakfield worked throughout the evening to extinguish the fire that was reported at about 6 p.m. Monday, according to Sherman Fire Chief Todd Hayes.
No one was injured, he said Tuesday.
The name of the owner of the house at 334 Gallison Road was not available Tuesday and fire officials were not sure whether the building was insured.
Sgt. Scott Richardson of the state fire marshal’s office said Tuesday afternoon that he was unable to determine the cause of the fire because of the extent of the damage to the home.
“The owner apparently came home and smelled smoke and saw some around the electrical panel,” said Richardson. “He ran upstairs and was able to escape out a window. All signs point to it being an electrical fire, but we just can’t make that absolute determination.”
